RPM is the Australian brand behind the Friction Pro and the newer Q Series. It is one of the few ranges where you can hit two paddles from the same maker and feel a genuinely different core under the ball, because the line spans both constructions: the Friction Pro family is thermoformed honeycomb, and the Q2 is RPM's first full foam paddle, developed with paddle engineer John Kew.

5 models in stock, $369 to $369
3 of them come in both 14mm and 16mm, so you are picking a feel rather than a different paddle. Every one is on the demo wall at the Pickleball Parlour in Epping, so you can hit before you buy.

The range at a glance

Every RPM paddle here is the same price, $369, so price is not the thing to choose on. Thickness and shape are.

The one difference that changes how they play

RPM sell both constructions side by side at the same price, which makes this the cleanest comparison in the shop. The Friction Pro is a thermoformed honeycomb build: firm, crisp, and quick off the face. The Q2 replaces the hollow cells with layered foam of varying density, which holds the ball marginally longer and softens what comes back into your hand. Same brand, same money, genuinely different feel.

What is actually inside the paddle Honeycomb core Hollow cells. Firm, crisp, more feedback into the hand. Full foam core Solid foam, often layered densities. Longer dwell, softer response.

Q Series, full foam

The Q2 is the paddle John Kew helped engineer. He does not review it, for the obvious reason, but he does explain how the foam densities were tuned.

Which RPM should you buy

Pick the Q2
If you want the softer, longer-dwell feel of a foam core and more forgiveness on resets, without leaving the brand.
Pick the Friction Pro Elongated
If you want reach and leverage on serves and drives, and you are happy with a smaller sweet spot in exchange.
Pick the Friction Pro Widebody
If you miss the middle more often than you would like. The wider face is the more forgiving of the two shapes.

Thickness is the single biggest lever here. A 14mm core is firmer and returns the ball faster, which favours drives and put-aways. A 16mm core holds the ball fractionally longer, which makes resets, dinks and third-shot drops easier to place. Shape matters next: elongated buys reach and leverage at the cost of a smaller sweet spot, widebody trades reach for a more forgiving face.
