Yonex EZONE vs VCORE vs PERCEPT: Power, Spin or Control? (Australia 2026)
Yonex make three performance racquet families, and on the shelf in Epping they look almost interchangeable: similar head sizes, similar weights, similar prices. They are not. The EZONE is built for power, the VCORE for spin, and the PERCEPT for control. Pick the one that matches how you actually hit the ball and the racquet does half the work. Pick the wrong one and you spend a season fighting it.
This guide puts the three side by side using the specifications from our own product pages, matches up the equivalent model in each family, and lists every frame we carry with what is in stock on 4 November 2026, so you can see where each one sits.

The short answer: power, spin or control
| EZONE | VCORE | PERCEPT | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built for | Power and comfort | Spin, with power | Control and feel |
| The feel | Plush and forgiving, the ball jumps off the strings | Fast through the air, the ball dips and kicks | Flexible and connected, you place the ball |
| Beam | Thickest, up to 26.5mm on the 100s | Middle, 22mm to 26mm | Thinnest, a constant 21mm on the 97s |
| Best for | Players who want easy depth without a huge swing | Baseliners with a fast, brushing swing | Players who generate their own pace and want precision |
| Price range | $389 to $429 | $310.78 to $344.39 | $302.58 to $327.18 |
The simplest way to think about it: the EZONE gives you pace, the VCORE gives you shape, and the PERCEPT gives you accuracy. All three come in 97 to 100 sq in heads and in light, standard and heavy versions, so the family is the first decision and the model is the second.
How the three differ on paper
Put the three most popular models next to each other and the differences are not in the head size or the weight, which are almost identical. They are in the beam, the balance and the stiffness, and those are what decide how the racquet plays.
| EZONE 98 | VCORE 98 | PERCEPT 97 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Head size | 98 sq in | 98 sq in | 97 sq in |
| Unstrung weight | 305g | 305g | 310g |
| Balance | 315mm | 324.9mm (6 pts HL) | 319.8mm (7 pts HL) |
| Beam width | 23.8 / 24.5 / 19.5mm | 23 / 23.5 / 22mm | 21 / 21 / 21mm |
| Stiffness (RA) | Not published | 63 | 60 |
| String pattern | 16x19 | 16x19 | 16x19 |
| Price | $429 (2026 Espresso Brown) | $344.39 (Gen 8, 18% off) | $327.18 (18% off) |
The beam is the tell. A thicker beam flexes less at contact and hands more energy back to the ball, which is where the EZONE gets its free power. The PERCEPT runs a thin, constant 21mm box beam that bends more, so the ball stays on the strings a fraction longer and you feel exactly where it is going. The VCORE sits between them, and gets its character from somewhere else: widened grommet holes that let the main strings slide and snap back, which is what adds the extra spin.
Stiffness follows the same pattern. The PERCEPT 97 is the softest frame here at 60 RA, the VCORE 98 is 63, and the VCORE 100 is 65. Softer frames feel more connected and are kinder on the arm, stiffer frames give more pace for the same swing.

Yonex EZONE: the power frame
The EZONE is Yonex's bestselling racquet and the easiest of the three to pick up and play well with. Its square Isometric head gives a sweet spot about 7% larger than a round head of the same size, and the 2026 version adds a thicker beam at the top of the hoop and lower stiffness, so it hits harder without feeling harsh. If you want the ball to go deep without having to swing out of your shoes, start here.
The 2026 frames are the new Espresso Brown release at $429, and the EZONE is not part of the Black November sale. On 4 November 2026 the 2026 EZONE 98, 100, 98 Tour and 100L are sold out online, and the 100SL is in stock. Two of the 2025 Blast Blue frames are still here, the 98+ at $419 and the 100SL at $389, and on the models we carry in both colourways the specification is identical. We have covered that choice in detail in our EZONE Blast Blue vs Espresso Brown guide.
Yonex VCORE: the spin frame

The VCORE is for players who brush up the back of the ball. The Gen 8 frames use a new aerodynamic beam so the head moves faster through the air, thickened beam sections for stability, and widened grommet holes that give the strings more room to move and snap back. Put together, the ball comes off higher over the net and drops sharply inside the baseline, which lets you swing harder with more margin.
All six Gen 8 models are $344.39 in the Black November sale, down from $419.99. On 4 November 2026 the VCORE 98, 100D and 98+ are sold out online. The VCORE 100 and 100D are the most searched VCOREs on our site, and the 100 is the one to try first if you are coming from a more forgiving frame. The 95 is the specialist: the smallest head and the most head-light balance in the range, for a player with a fast, precise swing.

Yonex PERCEPT: the control frame
The PERCEPT is the frame for players who already make their own pace and want to decide exactly where the ball lands. Its thin, constant 21mm beam and lower stiffness give the most feel of the three. It will not give you free power the way the EZONE does, and that is the point: every bit of pace comes from your swing, so what you put in is what you get out.
The 97 is the standard model. The 97H is the heaviest frame in this whole guide at 330g, the 97D swaps to a dense 18x20 pattern for a flatter ball, and the 100 and 100L bring a bigger head and a thicker 23mm beam for players who want some of that control with more forgiveness. On 4 November 2026 the PERCEPT 100 is sold out online and the 100L is in stock.
Which should you buy
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Yonex racquet gives the most spin?
The VCORE. It is designed specifically around spin, with widened grommet holes that let the main strings move and snap back, and an aerodynamic beam that speeds up the swing. The EZONE and PERCEPT will both produce spin with the right technique, but the VCORE adds the most for the same swing.
Which Yonex racquet has the most power?
The EZONE. Its thicker beam and Isometric head give the most free power of the three families. Within the range, the EZONE 100 is the most powerful full-weight model.
Is the PERCEPT good for beginners?
Generally no. The PERCEPT gives the least free power, so it suits players who already swing fully and consistently. A beginner or developing player will usually get on better with an EZONE 100, 100L or 100SL.
What is the difference between the VCORE 98 and the EZONE 98?
On paper they are the same head size and the same 305g unstrung weight. The VCORE is more head-light and built around spin, while the EZONE has a thicker upper beam and a larger sweet spot for more power and comfort. The EZONE 98 is $429 in the 2026 Espresso Brown, and the VCORE 98 is $344.39 in the Black November sale.
What do the letters after the model mean?
L means lighter and SL means super light. H on the PERCEPT 97H means heavy. Tour models are heavier, stable versions for advanced players, and a plus sign means an extended 27.5 in length. On the PERCEPT 97D the D means a denser 18x20 string pattern.
Do the racquets come strung?
No. Adult frames ship unstrung, so pick a string option when you add the racquet to your cart, or talk to the team in Epping about the string and tension that suit your game.
The Bottom Line
Decide on the family before the model. If you want the racquet to add pace, buy an EZONE. If you want your big swing to stay in the court, buy a VCORE. If you already have the pace and want to put the ball on a line, buy a PERCEPT.
Then use the equivalents table to pick the head size and weight. And if you are stuck between two, come and hit with both. The numbers get you to a shortlist, but the difference between a power frame and a control frame is something you feel in two or three shots.
